ISQua was delighted to facilitate a study tour on behalf of the Shanghai Medical Innovation & Development Foundation (SMIDF) Programme to Ireland in February.
A group of five senior officials from four of the top hospitals in China – The First Affiliated Hospital,
Zhejiang University; Tianjin Medical University General Hospital; The Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University; and Shanghai Institute of Medical Quality – took part in a work shop at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland followed by a site visit to St. James Hospital.
Our colleagues from China were interested in learning how ISQua implement quality and patient safety in healthcare. They were particularly interested in accreditation but also in our latest initiative on communities of practice and opportunities for ISQua to partner further with China.
Of course we learned as much from them. Similar to other Asian countries, care of the elderly is a major concern but they are growing old at a faster rate than any other country. China’s dependency ratio for retirees could rise as high as 44% by 2050.
We are very grateful to our colleagues in St. James Hospital, Dublin for facilitating a site visit to some of their area’s of excellence. We visited the Clinical Research facility, the Robotic Dispensing System in pharmacy and the recently opened Mercers Institute for Successful Ageing.
We look forward to meeting up with Dr Zhihai An, Mr. Quanjuan Deng, Mr. Feizhou Huang and Mr Yunlong Li again at the London Conference.
