Fostering closer ties between ISQua and PIPSQC Featured

The Paediatric International Patient Safety and Quality Community (PIPSQC), an international community of professionals who share a passion for patient safety and quality in paediatrics and the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua), a global organisation with the aim to inspire and drive improvement in the quality and safety of health care worldwide, have signed a collaboration agreement to foster closer ties between the two organisations.

A major focus of the agreement is to share information and link the complementary networks of both organisations.

ISQua’s network of patient safety individuals, who have, to date, been mostly adult-focused, will now have access to content that is aimed at promoting the health and safety of children and young people.

PIPSQC is passionate about spreading best-practices developed by paediatric patient safety collaboratives that are focused on keeping all children safe from serious harm in hospitals; through this collaboration, their message and work can be disseminated further within the health care community.

“Partnership with ISQua is a perfect next step in PIPSQC’s journey as an international community committed to sharing knowledge to hasten the elimination of healthcare-associated harm to children around the globe,” says Trey Coffey, MD FAAP FRCP(C), Safety Officer at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and executive member of PIPSQC.

ISQua has been working to improve the quality and safety of health care worldwide for over 30 years. We aim to achieve our goal through education, knowledge sharing, external evaluation, supporting health systems worldwide and connecting like-minded people through our health care networks. ISQua’s networks connect health professionals across all six continents.

As a paediatrician I am pleased that ISQua’s members will now have access to the wealth of information available on PIPSQC and that PIPSQC members will be able to participate in ISQua activities,” said Peter Lachman, MD, MPH, MBCh, FRCPCH, FCP (SA), FRCPI, Chief Executive Officer, ISQua. “This is the start of a very fruitful collaboration.”

About the Paediatric International Patient Safety and Quality Community (PIPSQC)

PIPSQC is an informal, international community of professionals who share a passion for patient safety and quality in paediatrics, and who interact together across organisational and geographic boundaries, to advance learning and improvements in these areas.

This complex adaptive system emerged in 2006 as a result of a pre-symposium invitational gathering before SickKids' Second Annual Paediatric Patient Safety Symposium. Those invited represented four countries on three continents. We recognized that our patient safety concerns were universal. The results of the roundtable discussion can be found in the Paediatric Patient Safety International Collaborative document. At dinner, that night, the Paediatric International Patient Safety and Quality Community was officially formalized and PIPSQC (pip·squeak) was born. https://www.pipsqc.org/.
