- Paulo Souza, Professor, National School of Public Health, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (NSPH-UNL), Portugal
- M. Rashad Massoud, Rashad Massoud Associates, LLC, USA
- BK Rana, Founding CEO, Quality and Accreditation Institute (QAI), India
- Shin Ushiro, Professor, Kyushu University Hospital, Japan Council for Quality Health Care, Japan
We congratulate each of the successful candidates and extend our gratitude to all Academy members who put themselves forward for election, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to advancing the field of quality and safety in health care.
We are also delighted to announce that Professor Jeffrey Braithwaite will be taking over as Chair of the IAQS, succeeding Professor David Bates. This leadership transition marks an important new chapter in the development of the Academy and was formally acknowledged during the ‘Meet the Academy’ session at ISQua’s 41st International Conference in São Paulo, Brazil, on Tuesday, 14th October 2025.
Reflecting on his new role, Professor Braithwaite shared:
“It will be an honour to serve ISQua in the capacity as Chair of the International Academy of Quality and Safety and to continue the work of my esteemed predecessor, colleague and friend, Professor David Bates, another past president of ISQua and world-renowned academic from Harvard University. I’m delighted to lead a stellar group of expert Academy members drawn from across the world, and look forward to working with the executive group members in furthering the objectives of the Academy, and in supporting the fulfilment of ISQua’s mission.”
ISQua extends its deepest thanks to Professor David Bates for his outstanding leadership as IAQS Chair and for his long-standing contributions to ISQua and the global quality and safety community.
We look forward to working with Professor Braithwaite and the newly elected Executive Committee as they continue to advance the Academy’s mission and support ISQua’s vision —
to be the global leader of transformation in healthcare quality and safety for all.
