In December 2025, the first joint WHLNet and ISQua Broadcast was held, on the topic 'AI Implications for Leadership in Service of Quality and Safety Improvement'.
This session built on and extended the rich discussion held at the recent International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua) pre-conference session, “When System Leadership Meets AI – Opportunities and a Way Forward.”
The broadcast explored how AI is reshaping core dimensions of healthcare system leadership, and following a short introduction, discussions took place in breakout rooms structured around five themes:
- Accreditation and regulation – AI’s role in strengthening standards, good governance, and external evaluation.
- Leading for safety and quality with AI – how system leaders can use AI to improve safety, resilience, and learning.
- AI, patients, and person-centred care – how AI can support (or complicate) patient empowerment and shared responsibility for care.
- Developing future leaders for an AI-enabled system – preparing leaders to use AI effectively and ethically across organisations and systems.
- The global perspective – what AI may mean for healthcare on a global scale.
These breakouts provided an opportunity to deepen and broaden the insights gained from the ISQua discussions and explore their implications for global leadership practice. Each breakout room was lead by two facilitators:

- Carolina Moreno
- Lydia Okutoyi
2. Leading for safety and quality with AI
