Since 2013, HCAC has been implementing an annual Change Day Initiative to empower healthcare professionals to take initiative and act on improving quality and patient safety. This has been happening under the Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Muna Al-Hussein.
In 2019, HCAC publically declared its support of the WPSD by linking their activities so they are complementary, and they executed their 6th annual “Change Day Campaign” on the same day. HCAC promoted the “light-up a prominent monument in orange” and encouraged the Royal Hotel in Amman to light up its building, and the Greater Amman Municipality to light up the Abdoun Bridge. In addition, this global campaign was highlighted in HCAC’s press releases, social media outlets and traditional media appearances.
This year, in 2020, HCAC is bringing its “Change Day” initiative to Jordan for the seventh year in a row on 17 September 2020, under the theme “For our Own Safety, First and Foremost, We Can Change” and to highlight initiatives based on the pledges ensuring the safety of health care workers and, consequently, the safety of patients and visitors.
HCAC will be carrying out the initiative this year by calling on all health care leaders and workers to make their pledges before 17 September 2020, by proposing innovative initiatives and activities beyond their day-to-day work routine. Their pledges shall be for actions they will implement on or around 17 September to ensure the safety of health care workers who are at the frontline; and this should have a positive impact on the safety of patients and visitors of their institutions. These innovative pledges will be fulfilled and highlighted in the form of photos, videos, stories and posts, and they will be publicized on 17 September 2020 in order to activate the principles of public safety in health care institutions in Jordan, particularly in times of crises.
Institutions and individuals wishing to participate in the “Change Day” initiative are expected to undertake initiatives and activities that would change and improve the processes and procedures in place within any of the four main areas:
1) Training, empowerment and resource and supply management;
2) Health and psychological support;
3) Social responsibility and client empowerment; and,
4) Preparedness and the provision of a safe environment while observing all common safety rules relating to the current circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As of 10th September, HCAC has received an amazing 220,141 pledges!
